My love of prog rock started in the 70s when I was very young and used to sneak into Hastings Pier Concerts to see legendary bands such as Genesis, Wally, England, Stray, Strawbs, Supertramp, Be Bop deluxe and many many more.
“The origins of Shane’s radio career can be traced right back to the early 1980’s when he started presenting on Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio (formerly Radio Park Sound) where has was later to become Programme Controller.
First discovered proper music [Rock] at school when someone played me the first Led Zeppelin album, I was blown away. Played around with mobile disco’s in the 70’s then was asked to join my local Hospital Radio Station in Kings Lynn where I learnt the basics of radio, not much chance to play rock music but was good to develop presentation skills.
A long, long time ago in a far- away land (we'll call it Doncaster), a lad wa'born, no wise men, no royalty and definitely no virgins were present, but little did they know on that day “Steven king of metal” was born! From that day forth t'was his crusade to bring metal to the masses.
Steve started his professional career on Radio in 1983 and hosted his Essex based Rock show for a number of years (voted 5th in the ‘Kerrang!’ Readers Poll), he is a freelance Journalist (a founder member of Metal Forces, has written for the Japanese magazine Burrn and the UK’s Powerplay) and was co-promoter & production manager for American Dream Promotions, the company who first brought bands like Danger Danger, Lou Gramm’s Shadow King, Bang Tango, Tuff and XYZ to the UK.
