ENTRIES CLOSE AT 9PM ON 23RD MAY. WINNER WILL BE DRAWN OUT LIVE ON THE UNCHAINED ROCK SHOW ON MONDAY 23RD MAY 2016

Divergent Concerts have announced the launch of a brand new one-day London metal festival for summer 2016. The inaugural Rock On Green festival, which will be taking over the O2 Forum Kentish Town from 4pm onwards on Sunday 5th June, is set to present a packed bill of established names and rising stars from the realms of symphonic, power and gothic tinged metal.

Co-headliners of this exciting new event are legendary Finnish soprano and former Nightwish frontwoman Tarja Turunen, who will play her first UK show for more than two years at Rock On Green, and the Swedish power metal/metalcore juggernaut Amaranthe. Austrian power metal giants Serenity are set to play the Special Guest Act slot, preceded by Australian multifaceted metallers Octanic, French groovemasters Republic of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Brit metalcore rockers Immension,

Tarja Turunen is one of the most striking, and instantly recognisable vocalists in metal. Rising to fame as the stunning, classically trained voice of symphonic metallers Nightwish, whom she fronted for 9 years, Tarja launched her hugely successful solo career in 2006. An artist of incredible range, her solo catalogue includes both classical and symphonic rock releases, which have been awarded gold and platinum in multiple countries. Her adoring British fanbase can expect to hear her showcasing cuts from her forthcoming, as-yet-untitled fourth solo album for the first time when she comes to Rock On Green in June. Tarja comments,“I am super happy to start my new heavy/rock album tour in UK!! I miss the Brits. Can’t wait to rock with you soon!”
Check out www.tarjaturunen.com for more info.

Amaranthe are a genre-transcending, forward looking, and daringly innovative sextet from Gothenberg, noted for their three lead singers, who mix clean vocals with death growls, and melodic death metal elements with big hooks. Their third album, ‘Massive Addictive’ instantly charted in six countries on release in 2014, even reaching number one on the US Billboard heatseekers charts. The tremendous reception to the album led to an extensive world tour, including several coast-to-coast tours of the USA, a tour all round Europe and Japan, let alone numerous one-off shows. They’re currently working on a follow up, to be released at some point in 2016. Check out http://amaranthe.se for more info.

Special Guest act Serenity’s much acclaimed fifth studio album, ‘Codex Atlanticus’, released by Napalm Records in late January 2016, is a deeply melodic offering, featuring monumental, movie-score-ish orchestral arrangements, all cascading with massive rhythms and fluid guitar riffs and licks. ‘Codex Atlanticus’ was awarded 10/10 by Powerplay Magazine’s Adrian Hextal, who stated “Another album and another opportunity for Serenity to deliver a spellbinding story that seamlessly blends fact and fiction about historical events and people. This time, Leonardo Da Vinci is the focus of the album and the tracks are peppered with concepts about conspiracies, the illuminati and myths. The arrangements form the soundtrack to an epic movie straight out of the Hans Zimmerman book of composing…The melodies are lush, the vocals are crisp and Georg has an excellent vocal range that suits the material perfectly. The orchestral elements of the tracks add depth without overshadowing the band, ensuring the guitars sound clean with enough grit to remind everyone that whilst this is indeed epic, at its heart it’s a metal album, lest we forget. Highlights include ‘My Final Chapter’, where the band take it all down several notches and the softer approach, with pipes added to the mix, drips with emotion. The heartfelt solo midway through bursts through the speakers and knocks you backwards before the strings and keys blend back in, allowing a pure fists-to-chest vocal moment from Georg. Closing on a piano outro, the song deserves multiple repeat plays.” Check out www.serenity-band.com for more info.

Multifaceted six-piece Octanic, who have been compared with the likes of Children of Bodom, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames and Soilwork, fuse diverse elements of hard rock, melodic death and modern metal with classical undertones, to create their own unique, distinctive musical concoction. The band’s debut album, ‘The Mask Of Hypocrisy’, released in October 2015 on Into Records, is an addictive blend of majestic keyboards, bone-crunching rhythms and soaring lead solos, coupled with passionate vocals and compelling lyrics. Recorded at Adelaide’s Deep Blue Studios and mixed by Roy Z (Bruce Dickinson, Halford, Judas Priest) at Mountain View Studio, Los Angeles, ‘The Mask Of Hypocrisy’ garnered an 8/10 review in Powerplay last November from Matt Karpe, who stated that “Octanic aren't just a one trick pony, as they are accomplished in playing heavy metal, melodic death and progressive, all the while adding classic undertones, whether it be via piano or choral backing… The Mask of Hypocrisy is an excellent debut release”. Check out www.octanic.com for more info.

Parisian alt. rockers Republic Of Rock ‘n’ Roll burst on to the scene three years ago, touting a sound which combines colossal riffs, majestic melodies and anthemic choruses, in a style that fans of QOTSA, Foo Fighters and Led Zeppelin will adore. A sold out French tour, a mythical show at Le Bataclan, and some sensational appearances in Belgium, Canada, the USA and even Russia have seen ‘RRR’ build a reputation as a mesmerizing live act, while rapidly growing their fanbase throughout Europe and beyond. After releasing debut album ‘Golden Place’ to acclaim in 2014, they scored a viral hit with the tongue-in-cheek video for single ‘Hipsters Must Die’, which racked up more than 20,000 views in less than a week online. Darkly humourous, and crammed with tasty hooks and heavy grooves, it showcases a band who are serious fun.
Check out www.facebook.com/republicrocknroll for more info.

Drawing from classic 80s Metallica, and attracting comparisons to contemporary metalcore masters like Bullet For My Valentine, Sheffield trio Immension released their debut album ‘In Vain’ last year. Packed with complex riffs and rhythms, as well as some surprising piano-led moments, ‘In Vain’ announced the arrival of a technically accomplished young act, boasting an impressive musical range. Check out www.immension.co.uk for more info.

Tickets are on sale now priced at £35 for downstairs standing, and £40 for upstairs unreserved seating/standing; the link is:- www.ticketweb.co.uk/event/gdp0406?camefrom=AMG_FORUM_rogf&brand=o2for

Hevy Fest 2016 Cancelled

Written by

Hevy

It is with great sadness that HEVY announces the cancellation of its 2016 festival and has put the event to rest indefinitely.

The organisers comment:

'Hevy Fest is no more.

After 6 years of incredible bands, legendary hangs, and a lot of monkeys - we’re sorry to announce that Hevy Fest is pulling the plug.

Despite the best efforts of our dedicated team, the festival has become financially untenable. Many things have contributed: Port Lympne being unable to continue hosting the event, the increasingly difficult task of putting together a line-up with more and more exclusives enforced each year leading to difficulties confirming our final headliner, and the pressure to offer good value with spiralling costs. The odds are stacked against anyone taking on the challenge, and they have proven too great for us to overcome.

There is a great community of Hardcore, Punk and Metal supporters in the UK and we hope that other small festivals will be able to grow into this space, and to deliver the event we aspired to.

Ticket holders will be automatically refunded. All monies will be returned in the next 10 working days (including booking fees and postage).

As a small independent event, we want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years.

Hevy Fest // 2009 - 2015'

WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS TO SEE OVERKILL.

Yes thats right we have not one... but two pairs of tickets to give away to see thrash metal masters Overkill at Leeds University (Stylus) on April7th thanks to those beautiful people at Nuclear Blast.

Through much hard work and a slew of infamous live performances at New York area clubs like L’Amours, Overkill established a reputation as a blue-collar, working man’s metal band. After the band released a self-financed EP in 1984, Overkill broke onto the scene in 1985 with Feel The Fire (info), a crushing thrash assault on Megaforce Records, the label to beat when it came to 80’s thrash. The self-proclaimed “Wrecking Crew” - originally consisting of vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth, bassist D.D. Verni, guitarist Bobby Gustafson, and drummer Rat Skates - were on a tear, borrowing heavily from punk rock roots while adding a venomous metal crunch that allowed them to compete favorably with peers like Testament, Anthrax, and Megadeth.

Slam Dunk Festival are excited to announce the Kerrang! Fresh Blood stage. Nine of the most exciting new bands around will be gracing the stage on the May bank Holiday weekend.

Having kicked off the year with two tours of the UK (supporting Motionless In White then Escape The Fate), NEW YEARS DAY return to headline the Kerrang! stage at Slam Dunk for this exclusive festival appearance. Armed with gothic tinged, hard rocking anthems from 2015’s ‘Malevolence’, Ash Costello and her band of not so merry men will remind the crowds at Slam Dunk why they are one of the hottest new bands in the US right now. Check out their latest video for ‘I’m About To Break You’ HERE.

CREEPER, one of the breakout British rock bands over the past year have been added to the lineup. Will Gould, singer of the band says "We are extremely excited to be performing at this year’s Slam Dunk Festival. It is a festival we've been attending for years and has become a staple of the summer for the UK scene. We're going to be pulling out all the stops to make sure our Slam Dunk debut is something to remember."

Pure Noise records & UK punk-rockers BOSTON MANOR are also announced. Building a name for themselves with their modern day emotive punk anthems, Boston Manor have toured with the likes of Moose Blood and As It Is. They are set to become one of the stand-out gems in the UK’s burgeoning rock scene & no doubt at the festival itself. "We're excited to be playing one of the fastest growing independent festivals in the UK along with so many of our friends. There's a host of some of the best up & coming bands in the country as well as bands we've looked up to since we were teenagers. It should be a really cool few days" says the band.

Epitaph Records' BEAUTIFUL BODIES will be taking to the Slam Dunk stage for the first time. The female fronted alternative rock band from Kansas City have an unapologetically loud-and-hooky style while their fabulously chaotic live shows stem directly from an all-consuming desire to tap into the cosmic power grid, and channel it full-force to the world at large. Slam Dunk fans are in for a treat!

As far as young rock bands go, CANE HILL are certainly one of the most exiting. The raging New Orleans rock outfit will be making their live UK debut at the festival. The highly anticipated full-length album, 'Smile' will be out via Rise Records this Summer.

"We are all very excited to be playing Slam Dunk this year alongside so many amazing bands" says Kaya Tarsus of BLOOD YOUTH. “Playing this festival has been one of our main goals since we started, it's going to be a very good time!"

London punks DEAD! have been causing a stir of late, exciting media and fans alike. Alex Mountford, lead singer of the band says "To all the people who have been hassling us to play Slam Dunk.....well, here you go! You ask, we listen!"

Next up, Texans WATERPARKS, who have just released their new EP, Cluster, via Equal Vision Records. Cluster was recorded with producers Benji Madden (Good Charlotte, 5 Seconds of Summer) and Courtney Ballard (5 Seconds of Summer, All Time Low). Expect 'killer hooks and killer attitudes'.

Californian sisters HAIM have grown into mesmeric darlings of the indie-pop world since the global success of debut album “Days Are Gone”. As anticipation grows for their unannounced second studio effort, Este, Danielle and Alana will be transforming Reading & Leeds into their own sun-drenched paradise in another UK Festival Exclusive.

The name on everyone’s lips Jack Garratt will hit Reading & Leeds 2016 with his untouchable electro-rock grooves, fresh from claiming the BBC Sound Of 2016 and BRITS Critics Choice Award that has marked him out as the one to watch this year.

The Wombats unmistakable electro-pop hooks have sound tracked the nation for nearly 10 years and fresh from their biggest live shows of their career in 2015, the Liverpudlian trio will be returning for an unmissable performance.

Speaking of their performance, The Wombats said:
''We are beyond excited to get back to Reading & Leeds Festivals! If I'm correct this will be our fourth time around but without a doubt last year was our favourite. It doesn't get much better than an R&L crowd!"

Exclusively returning to the Reading & Leeds fields are South African rave phenomenon Die Antwoord lighting the stage across the weekend with their unpredictable and chaotic live show.

Kentucky psych-mixers Cage The Elephant will be touching down with a full-barraged assault on the senses, whilst Reading’s own indie dreamers Sundara Karma take to the biggest stages of their career.

Tectonic beats and bass-heavy vibrations are abound, with performances across the weekend from chart-hitters Sigma, dance don Netsky, “White Noise” gliders AlunaGeorge and highly tipped electronic svengali Mura Masa. Grime pillars Krept & Konan will cement their ascent with a high-energy turn at this year’s festivals, with underground king Giggs also due to appear.

Duo Sigma commented:
“We can’t wait to bring the new live show to Reading and Leeds for the first time - see you down the front!”

Netsky said:
“So excited to be coming back to the UK for Reading & Leeds this summer, the crowds always blow me away at these ones, and I can’t wait to bring the live band back again this year once my new album is out. See you in August!”

The Neighbourhood have also been announced, alongside punk purveyors Savages, ‘BBC Sound Of’ indie-mixers Blossoms, recently reunited Suffolk hardcore outfit Basement, Canadian anthem-sourcers Half Moon Run and the fresh dynamic rock of Highly Suspect, who all make for unmissable performances at this year’s festivals.

Basement said:
"We're all really excited to be playing Reading and Leeds festival again this year. It's a huge honour to be asked back and we can't wait to play the NME stage for the first time."

Highly Suspect had this to say on their upcoming appearance at Reading & Leeds 2016:
"Coming to the U.K. was some of the best shit that ever happened to us. Can't believe we get to come back again so soon and play at such an incredible festival. Pumped."

Reading & Leeds rich history in highlighting the sub genres and game-changers of the alternative world will continue in 2016, with calculating metallers The Dillinger Escape Plan returning to the festival 14 years after one of the most talked about appearances in festival history in a UK Festival Exclusive. Another UK Festival Exclusive sits with the unstoppable behemoth that is Asking Alexandria making their Reading & Leeds debut with a headline spectacle for the ages. The returning punks The King Blues will also be bringing their politically-charged sermons on the modern nation to the Reading & Leeds crowds.

Itch from The King Blues says:
"We're so excited to be back amongst the freaks and the troublemakers on the punk stage we've played so many times. This is truly going to be the highlight of my summer"

Bringing an equally fierce live reputation is Creeper, the most talked about new band in the UK, whose sets have become community gatherings with their electric blend of goth and punk rock, making them ones not to be missed. Also announced is the glam-rock stomp of FVK, Rage Against The Machine’s Tim Commerford unleashing his fierce new outfit Wakrat, Philadelphian rockers Modern Baseball, rising punks Dead!, Norwegian six-piece Kvelertak and dark rock glazers Citizen.

FVK co-frontman Kier Kemp commented:
"Well then here's another one for the bucket list! Some of our fondest festival memories are from Reading Festival, and to think we'll be gracing those stages this year is unreal. I guess all I can say is thanks to everyone that's got us here. Yay!"

Creeper said:
"We are incredibly excited to be playing Reading and Leeds festival this year. Members of our band have been attending these festivals since we were kids, it is an incredible honour to have been asked to play and we promise a very special show."

Tim Commerford of Wakrat said:
“I can't believe that WAKRAT will be playing Reading and Leeds this year. It's a blessing to play and introduce my new passion to a part of the world that has been so good to me and has some of the most incredible fans and we hope to win more over.”

Rising punks DEAD! said:
"R&L has become a rite of passage for bands building something and taking it that bit further. We're excited to take that step. See you down the front X"

Reading & Leeds emphatic array of the best in hip-hop continues with the addition of US hit machine Travi$ Scott. The eccentric, genre-blender released his acclaimed debut LP ‘Rodeo” at the end of 2015, only extending his reputation as the most in-demand name in modern hip-hop. He’ll be joined across the weekend with headline sets from G-Eazy whose acclaimed appearance on Grace’s “You Don’t Own Me” sent his stardom to another level. Both of these huge names stand as UK Festival Exclusives, making Reading & Leeds the only place to be for the hottest names in modern hip-hop.

Further additions include Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals who set to deliver an unmissable masterclass in modern jazz and soul whilst reggae wordsmith Protoje, South London’s Section Boyz, gritty actor turned musician Raleigh Ritchie, the undeniable rhymes of Lady Leshurr, label disc-jockey DJ Semtex and Yungen are all set to tear apart the stage at this year’s festivals.

Protoje said about his addition to the line up:
"The UK is one of my favourite places in the world to play music so it's always a pleasure to come there and play. The crowds there always show up with an energy that is unlike anywhere else in the world. Looking forward to the response at Reading and Leeds Fest."

Indie veterans and Newcastle’s favourite sons Maxïmo Park will be opening their catalogue of art-rock soundscapes that defined a generation of guitar bands. Expect the hits and more from dynamic frontman Paul Smith. In another UK Festival Exclusive, Seratones join the line up, bringing their infectious, swinging rock to Reading & Leeds for an unprecedented evening of Southern charm.

Taking to the stage across the weekend, will be the shining solo moods of Banners, the riotous snarl of rockers INHEAVEN and the fuzzed grunge goodness of Glaswegian dreamers Tuff Love.

Joining co-headliners Disclosure in the dance music world at Reading & Leeds 2016 is a mixture of pioneering legends and the hottest names in underground dance. Duke Dumont will be dropping an undeniable masterclass in modern pop whilst David Rodigan MBE 1Xtra’s Mistajam, BRIT Award nominees Disciples, “Alone No More” hitmaker Philip George, French DJ supremos Birdy Nam Nam, LA spinner Jauz, “Rinse & Repeat” hitmaker Riton and a decadent bass breakdown with My Nu Leng B2B Oneman + Dread MC (Reading) and Oneman B2B My Nu Leng + Dread MC (Leeds) as all take to the decks for unique and bass-shaking performances over the weekend, proving the home of modern dance is Reading & Leeds.

Philip George said:
“When you’re a kid, Reading and Leeds were two festivals you really dream of playing at - and this summer I am buzzing that I get to make that dream come true I remember seeing all the line ups coming out for Reading/Leeds and they are always quality so it's mint that I'm playing it this summer. I’m really looking forward to it”

Including the unprecedented 5 Headliners Over 3 Days in Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foals, Disclosure and today’s announcement of Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy, previously announced acts including pop kings The 1975, dance supremos Jack U, Las Vegas chart heroes Imagine Dragons, US hip/hop enigma Fetty Wap, Grime collective Boy Better Know, Courteeners, Twenty One Pilots, Two Door Cinema Club and many, many more!

Bloodstock 2016 Announce More Bands

Written by

The BLOODSTOCK gladiators have been out marauding and have rounded up five more metal beasts for your entertainment this August.

First up, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY join the Ronnie James Dio main stage bill.  Now reunited with Pepper Keenan up front, BLOODSTOCK’s faithful can look forward to a slew of classics from their three-decade-plus career.  Pepper tells us, "It’s been a real pleasure after all this time to get back with the COC lads and start jamming again and creating music.  We are having a blast!  We've have had so much support from all over the globe and landing on a fest like BLOODSTOCK really sums it up.  We’re honoured and cannot wait to up the fuckin' hammers in the middle of nowhere in merry ol' England!  Thank you!  Ohh yeah, don't forget me cider ….!”  CoC kicked off 2016 by launching their own ‘Wiseblood’ beer with the Three Floyd’s Brewing Co, announced a US run with Lamb of God & Clutch, and are also hard at work on a brand new album.  Get the latest news at www.coc.com.

UNEARTH also join the BLOODSTOCK bill for the first time.   If you’re fast, you can get clued up on their new material in time for August by picking up current album, ‘Watchers of Rule’ at a discounted price of around a fiver over at their merch store - http://unearth.merchnow.com/products/185256/watchers-of-rule-cd.

Wherever they can, BLOODSTOCK is proud to bring you bands who don’t often grace UK shores, so joining the main stage bill to play their first ever UK show are atmospheric US black metal outfit, GHOST BATH.  Grab their ‘Moonlover’ album, just released on iTunes last week via new label, Nuclear Blast.  The band inform us; “Thus begins our inevitable conquest to take over the world, one festival at a time.  It is an honour and a pleasure to perform for those who attend Bloodstock and beyond."

Local heroes, EVIL SCARECROW also make a triumphant return!    As serious contenders for the ‘most fun had on stage’ prize, what do they make of their return?   “We’re back!  Again!  We’re like the BLOODSTOCK house band or maybe a bad STD that you can’t get rid of.  Either way, we’re hoping to bring our biggest ever show and even some new material.  After the historic, record breaking crowd of 2014, we’re looking forward to being back on that stage, although a custom-built, floating glass pyramid ‘Scarecrow Stage’ would have been nice.  We’re genuinely overwhelmed and beyond excited to be back partying with our BLOODSTOCK brothers and sisters.”  Keep up with Scarecrow’s shenanigans via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Evil.Scarecrow.

Also, joining the Sophie stage bill are XII BOAR.  A big slab of rock n' roll-infused, southern-fried metal, this power trio are determined to make sure everyone has a good time.  Ric Flair raves, "We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing our trademarked XII BOAR grooves to BLOODSTOCK.  This year's line-up is already beyond words and we're so stoked to be a part of it. Get your dancing shoes on and get down to the super massive XII BOAR sound as we're assembling the biggest party BLOODSTOCK has ever seen!  See you there!”

FINAL CALL for the Deposit Scheme!!!  Today (29th Feb) is the last day left to sign up for BLOODSTOCK’s very popular payment plan.  This year it’s even more manageable to pay for your ticket in stages, with the scheme expanding the payments from 3 to 5 months.  The 1st payment of £34.80 is payable immediately, then 4 additional payments of around £30 will debit your account on 28th of March, April, May and June.  (Exact amounts; £27.80 for Mar/Apr/May, £31.30 in June to include postage).  Sign up over at http://bloodstock.seetickets.com/event/bloodstock-2016/catton-park/902838.  We regret that VIP tickets are NOT available via the payment plan, although pending VIP availability, you could purchase a VIP upgrade in July or August and still be in time for the festival!

Already announced for 2016 are our three headliners, TWISTED SISTER (in their last ever UK show), MASTODON and SLAYER, plus special guests BEHEMOTH, GOJIRA and ANTHRAX.  Also on the bill are FEAR FACTORY, SYMPHONY X, SATYRICON, PARADISE LOST, DRAGONFORCE, METAL ALLEGIANCE, STUCK MOJO, ROTTING CHRIST, VENOM, GOATWHORE and ACID REIGN.  Many more are still to be announced.

We have recorded 5 more original albums following Ocean Avenue. Without that album none of these things would have been possible. I wouldn't change a thing."
