MORE AMES FOR THE ALTERNATIVE STAGE AT READING AND LEEDS 2016.
This year's Reading and Leeds alternative stage is overflowing with comedy talent again this year.
Leading the comedy selection is the hilarious Russell Howard, who's enjoyed massive success with 'Russell Howard’s Good News', establishing him as one of the UK’s biggest comedians.
The legendary Bill Bailey will be returning to Reading & Leeds after his unforgettable performance in 2014. Known for his impressive musical knowledge, Bailey will be making the Alternative Stage his home as his famous Limboland world tour makes a stop at the festival this August.
Joining Russell and Bill is an extensive array of comedians, including Radio 4 stalwart Marcus Brigstocke, razor-sharp pop-culture commentator Katherine Ryan, Well Good prankster Lee Nelson and Impractical Jokers' very own Joel Dommett.
On top of a long list of comedians you'll find some of the biggest club nights bringing their famed parties to the festival. Masterful indie club night Propaganda will once again provide a late night euphoric disco soundtrack with special guest appearances from This Is England’s Thomas Turgoose, DJ Dan and many more, with Buttoned Down Disco also on hand with the rock, pop, punk and indie party-starters.
Check out the full Reading & Leeds line up to see all the names hitting the Alternative Stage next month.http://www.leedsfestival.com/line-up

Tech Fest 2016 to be Invaded By Aliens...
To celebrate Tech-Fest's 5th Anniversary, Tech-Fest is launching an exclusive Tech-Fest Invasion set of T-Shirts! there will only be 50 of each colour printed on sale and are only available at UK Tech-Fest 2016.
This is a concept artwork of Tech-Fest being invaded by aliens drawn by the legendary Cal Sino. https://www.facebook.com/CALSINO.ART
Cal Sinadinovic (The Artist) - "I started this monster in April and with each new line up announcement the size of the thing went from A3 to A2 eventually to A1. The concept was just to draw from the perspective of the Tech-Fest crowd. These particular space mutants are really into their Tech-Metal so they obviously already knew about Tech-Fest. They decide to gate crash the festival and the whole thing erupts into a massive extraterrestrial death pit/orgy with the most insane soundtrack behind it. We've got a whole roster of colour variants getting pressed so no matter what planet you're from you can rep this Tech-Fest shirt."
Simon Garrod (Festival Organiser) - "It was a pleasure working with Cal, such determination and attention to detail has made this an absolute master piece! I would highly recommend you hire this dude for any Merch/Album designs. This is his first artwork published in the metal community so he really brings something fresh to the table. If you are into multidimensional mutant alien orgies and other such weirdness Cal is your man!".
The excluisive shirts will be on sale for £20 each.
BLOODSTOCK’S FIRST M2TM FINALS WINNERS ANNOUNCED! NEW SPONSOR AND PRIZES ON OFFER!
There’s a wealth of exciting news from BLOODSTOCK HQ in regard to their grass-roots-metal-supporting ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ scheme. Coming on board as a premier sponsor is the newly resurrected, iconic metal label, MUSIC FOR NATIONS! Also two more exciting prizes have been thrown into the mix for one of the lucky bands on the Hobgoblin New Blood bill.
All those winning a slot on the Hobgoblin New Blood stage via the ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ initiative will already be in the running for the chance to receive endorsement deals from gear manufacturers and professional PR advice, but are also now eligible for these additional prizes. One winner will get recording time with renowned producer, Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Angel Witch, Cathedral & many more) at his residential Orgone Studios in Woburn, Beds. Metal Hammer have also pledged to support one winning band with exposure on Metal Hammer’s website and invite them to the magazine offices for a feature photoshoot and interview, plus a radio interview for Team Rock Radio.
Meantime, the ‘M2TM’ finals are already under way and continue through to 10th July (remaining dates below). BLOODSTOCK’s ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ judging squad have been clocking up the miles (1800 to date!) and many lucky bands have won slots on the Hobgoblin New Blood stage! Check out this lot for starters.
Joining Friday’s bill are;
SEED OF SORROW (www.facebook.com/seedofsorrow), melodic death metallers from the Inverness final. Five piece from the Scottish highlands, dedicated to producing the angriest metal possible!
HUSK (www.facebook.com/HUSKUKMETAL), death metal from the Wolverhampton final. With many of their dark, groove based tracks being built around bass player/vocalist Bob Taylor’s infectious bass playing, introducing elements of slap bass in death metal shouldn’t even be a thing …. But it really is.
BURNING THE DREAM (www.facebook.com/burningthedream), progressive death metal from Glasgow’s final. Venomous groove-laden death with hooks galore!
VEHEMENT (www.facebook.com/officialvehement), extreme/black metal from Brighton’s final. Black clothes? Black face masks?! Check! An unrelenting smoke machine and a bone fide MMA fighter on drums?! Check, check!! Extreme metal with real strength!
TRIVERSE MASSACRE (www.facebook.com/triversemassacre), groove/thrash metal from Carlisle’s final. “...like standing naked in a hurricane, or diving head-first into a nest of pissed-off hornets!” Heavy as fuck!!
THE CRAWLING (https://www.facebook.com/thecrawlingband), down-tempo death from Belfast’s final. When a band has the ability to set a scene in a mere 30mins, you’re on to a winner. The Crawling say little between tracks allowing the sample of flies to draw the audience into an uneasy feeling of melancholy. A grim blend of doom and death that’ll hve you scratching and questioning your own mortality.
TEN TON SLUG (www.facebook.com/tentonslug), stoner sludge doom from Dublin’s final. Like being reverse kicked in the knackers by a disgruntled rhino! These lads are not for those of a weak disposition.
Winning a Saturday slot:
BEARFIST (www.facebook.com/bearfistuk), metal from London! It’s all about the riffs and these guys have ‘em in spades. So much so, the guitarist won the handmade custom guitar from local sponsors, Empire Guitars! Congrats lads!
RAMAGE INC (www.facebook.com/ramageinc), ambient prog metal from Glasgow’s final. Already well established with prog/tech metal fans, these guys deliver with comparisons to the Devin Townsend writing style but with the Ramage stamp. Tech bliss.
FAMYNE (www.facebook.com/famyneuk), doom from Kent’s final. A young band with an old school sound, remiscent of Chronicles’-era Hawkwind mixed up with the epic sound of Candlemass. An obligatory oversized gong and a rolling smoke machine were in full effect!
And the first one for Sunday:
ART OF DECEPTION (https://www.facebook.com/ArtofDeceptionofficial), melodic death from Norway’s final. With frontman Sindre Johnsen having direct family ties to Kvelertak, his pedigree points to his ferocious vocal delivery and no shortage of notable twin lead skills. These guys were a stand out choice.
As well as the fresh blood, sliding in to a Sophie stage slot are BEHOLDER! Fronted by M2TM Head Honcho, Simon Hall, he’ll be leading the way where many of his charges will hope to follow. With a recently lauded new album….
There’s also a chance for punters at each event to win weekend tickets to BLOODSTOCK, a case of Hobgoblin Ale to take home, or various other BLOODSTOCK related prizes. You can even shake hands with BLOODSTOCK’s ‘M2TM’ mainman, Simon Hall. Remaining finals run as follows so get out, support and win those festival tickets for yourself!

ENTRIES CLOSE AT 9PM ON 23RD MAY. WINNER WILL BE DRAWN OUT LIVE ON THE UNCHAINED ROCK SHOW ON MONDAY 23RD MAY 2016
Divergent Concerts have announced the launch of a brand new one-day London metal festival for summer 2016. The inaugural Rock On Green festival, which will be taking over the O2 Forum Kentish Town from 4pm onwards on Sunday 5th June, is set to present a packed bill of established names and rising stars from the realms of symphonic, power and gothic tinged metal.
Co-headliners of this exciting new event are legendary Finnish soprano and former Nightwish frontwoman Tarja Turunen, who will play her first UK show for more than two years at Rock On Green, and the Swedish power metal/metalcore juggernaut Amaranthe. Austrian power metal giants Serenity are set to play the Special Guest Act slot, preceded by Australian multifaceted metallers Octanic, French groovemasters Republic of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Brit metalcore rockers Immension,
Tarja Turunen is one of the most striking, and instantly recognisable vocalists in metal. Rising to fame as the stunning, classically trained voice of symphonic metallers Nightwish, whom she fronted for 9 years, Tarja launched her hugely successful solo career in 2006. An artist of incredible range, her solo catalogue includes both classical and symphonic rock releases, which have been awarded gold and platinum in multiple countries. Her adoring British fanbase can expect to hear her showcasing cuts from her forthcoming, as-yet-untitled fourth solo album for the first time when she comes to Rock On Green in June. Tarja comments,“I am super happy to start my new heavy/rock album tour in UK!! I miss the Brits. Can’t wait to rock with you soon!”
Check out www.tarjaturunen.com for more info.
Amaranthe are a genre-transcending, forward looking, and daringly innovative sextet from Gothenberg, noted for their three lead singers, who mix clean vocals with death growls, and melodic death metal elements with big hooks. Their third album, ‘Massive Addictive’ instantly charted in six countries on release in 2014, even reaching number one on the US Billboard heatseekers charts. The tremendous reception to the album led to an extensive world tour, including several coast-to-coast tours of the USA, a tour all round Europe and Japan, let alone numerous one-off shows. They’re currently working on a follow up, to be released at some point in 2016. Check out http://amaranthe.se for more info.
Special Guest act Serenity’s much acclaimed fifth studio album, ‘Codex Atlanticus’, released by Napalm Records in late January 2016, is a deeply melodic offering, featuring monumental, movie-score-ish orchestral arrangements, all cascading with massive rhythms and fluid guitar riffs and licks. ‘Codex Atlanticus’ was awarded 10/10 by Powerplay Magazine’s Adrian Hextal, who stated “Another album and another opportunity for Serenity to deliver a spellbinding story that seamlessly blends fact and fiction about historical events and people. This time, Leonardo Da Vinci is the focus of the album and the tracks are peppered with concepts about conspiracies, the illuminati and myths. The arrangements form the soundtrack to an epic movie straight out of the Hans Zimmerman book of composing…The melodies are lush, the vocals are crisp and Georg has an excellent vocal range that suits the material perfectly. The orchestral elements of the tracks add depth without overshadowing the band, ensuring the guitars sound clean with enough grit to remind everyone that whilst this is indeed epic, at its heart it’s a metal album, lest we forget. Highlights include ‘My Final Chapter’, where the band take it all down several notches and the softer approach, with pipes added to the mix, drips with emotion. The heartfelt solo midway through bursts through the speakers and knocks you backwards before the strings and keys blend back in, allowing a pure fists-to-chest vocal moment from Georg. Closing on a piano outro, the song deserves multiple repeat plays.” Check out www.serenity-band.com for more info.
Multifaceted six-piece Octanic, who have been compared with the likes of Children of Bodom, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames and Soilwork, fuse diverse elements of hard rock, melodic death and modern metal with classical undertones, to create their own unique, distinctive musical concoction. The band’s debut album, ‘The Mask Of Hypocrisy’, released in October 2015 on Into Records, is an addictive blend of majestic keyboards, bone-crunching rhythms and soaring lead solos, coupled with passionate vocals and compelling lyrics. Recorded at Adelaide’s Deep Blue Studios and mixed by Roy Z (Bruce Dickinson, Halford, Judas Priest) at Mountain View Studio, Los Angeles, ‘The Mask Of Hypocrisy’ garnered an 8/10 review in Powerplay last November from Matt Karpe, who stated that “Octanic aren't just a one trick pony, as they are accomplished in playing heavy metal, melodic death and progressive, all the while adding classic undertones, whether it be via piano or choral backing… The Mask of Hypocrisy is an excellent debut release”. Check out www.octanic.com for more info.
Parisian alt. rockers Republic Of Rock ‘n’ Roll burst on to the scene three years ago, touting a sound which combines colossal riffs, majestic melodies and anthemic choruses, in a style that fans of QOTSA, Foo Fighters and Led Zeppelin will adore. A sold out French tour, a mythical show at Le Bataclan, and some sensational appearances in Belgium, Canada, the USA and even Russia have seen ‘RRR’ build a reputation as a mesmerizing live act, while rapidly growing their fanbase throughout Europe and beyond. After releasing debut album ‘Golden Place’ to acclaim in 2014, they scored a viral hit with the tongue-in-cheek video for single ‘Hipsters Must Die’, which racked up more than 20,000 views in less than a week online. Darkly humourous, and crammed with tasty hooks and heavy grooves, it showcases a band who are serious fun.
Check out www.facebook.com/republicrocknroll for more info.
Drawing from classic 80s Metallica, and attracting comparisons to contemporary metalcore masters like Bullet For My Valentine, Sheffield trio Immension released their debut album ‘In Vain’ last year. Packed with complex riffs and rhythms, as well as some surprising piano-led moments, ‘In Vain’ announced the arrival of a technically accomplished young act, boasting an impressive musical range. Check out www.immension.co.uk for more info.

It is with great sadness that HEVY announces the cancellation of its 2016 festival and has put the event to rest indefinitely.
The organisers comment:
'Hevy Fest is no more.
After 6 years of incredible bands, legendary hangs, and a lot of monkeys - we’re sorry to announce that Hevy Fest is pulling the plug.
Despite the best efforts of our dedicated team, the festival has become financially untenable. Many things have contributed: Port Lympne being unable to continue hosting the event, the increasingly difficult task of putting together a line-up with more and more exclusives enforced each year leading to difficulties confirming our final headliner, and the pressure to offer good value with spiralling costs. The odds are stacked against anyone taking on the challenge, and they have proven too great for us to overcome.
There is a great community of Hardcore, Punk and Metal supporters in the UK and we hope that other small festivals will be able to grow into this space, and to deliver the event we aspired to.
Ticket holders will be automatically refunded. All monies will be returned in the next 10 working days (including booking fees and postage).
As a small independent event, we want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years.
